Handicapped Diving

Docks can be wheelchair accessible at resorts which are set up for handicapped diving.

Bonaire is a fantastic destination for those who wish to dive or snorkel, but have not enjoyed such because of physical challenges or handicaps.  Several of Bonaire’s full-service dive resorts are totally wheelchair accessible in rooms, restaurants, and docks.

Dive crews are trained to assist the handicapped divers.

Dive crews have staff trained in assisting those who might need a little extra help or even those who might require personal assistance with getting on and off a boat, or in and out of the water.

Easy conditions assist with learning to dive.

Bonaire’s easy conditions make it an ideal location for learning new skills which can be used forever, as many handicapped divers return year after year.  In fact, large groups of handicapped divers can be accommodated at some dive resorts.

For over ten years, Bonaire has hosted annual visits from numerous organizations that specialize in dive travel for wounded warriors and their families. Many of those men and women who were seriously injured during their service in the U.S. military try diving for the first time on Bonaire.  Upon arrival, they complete their Open Water certifications and then spend the rest of their visit diving the island’s famous reefs.
