Yachting & Cruising

Arriving by Private Yacht

Bonaire is known throughout the cruising community as a safe, cruiser-friendly port. There are a number of moorings that are available for $35 per night. Cruisers should contact the Harbour Village Marina for mooring assignments via channel 17 before picking up a mooring.

Bonaire is located well outside the hurricane belt, and has two full-service marinas, which are capable of berthing all-size yachts. The Harbour Village Marina is located adjacent to the Harbour Village Resort. The Plaza Resort’s facility is also adjacent to their property. They both offer a full array of conveniences and welcome short and long-term stays.

While short and long-term stays are offered, boats are only able to stay overnight on certain moorings. Many moorings along the island’s west coast are available for 2-hour windows at a time so that everyone can share, such as dive boats, snorkel charters, sailing charters, fishing charters, etc.

Anchoring is Strictly Prohibited

Anchoring is strictly prohibited around the island of Bonaire and Klein Bonaire to maintain a safe environment, preventing potential hazards to the reef and scuba divers. This restriction aims to safeguard the surrounding maritime infrastructure from potential damage or accidents.

Visitor Tax

All visitors must pay a Visitor Tax of $75 per visit to Bonaire. This applies to all non-residents aged 13 and older. The Visitor Tax is mandatory for all non-residents traveling by plane or boat. The Visitor Tax can be paid online in advance up to 7 days before your arrival or upon arrival at the airport. Please make sure you use the link provided. If a website tries to charge you more than $75, then it is not the official website. For more questions, visit the FAQ page.

Customs & Immigration

Cruisers are obliged to check in with Customs and Immigration on arrival since anchoring is prohibited. Cruisers can dingy to Karel’s Bar and check in during business hours. A complete list of regulations is available at customs. All firearms, spear guns, and similar weapons are required to be left with customs for reclaiming upon checking out.

Services for Visiting Yachts

There are a number of services available; a sail shop and chandlery are conveniently located near the anchorage, as well as in other locations. Bonaire has always welcomed all cruisers and recognizes the contributions they make to the island’s economy.
