Latest information and FAQs for Bonaire travel.

The Dutch and Island Governments of Bonaire have provided a Frequently Asked Questions on Bonaire Travel, given the recent flight and cruise ship restrictions for entry into Bonaire.

However, since it is in the Dutch language, we have provided a general translation of this important document below:


The government on Bonaire is taking measures to prevent the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19). Below you will find the answers to the most frequently asked questions about these measures. Also, read the travel advice for Bonaire .

What is the current situation on Bonaire?

No persons with a COVID-19 infection have yet been confirmed on Bonaire. As a preventive measure, it has been decided that airspace will be closed until at least March 27, 6:00 PM for all passenger flights from Europe, the US and other countries that are at risk of spreading the coronavirus. There is also a ban on the mooring of cruise ships.

People who are already on vacation on Bonaire can continue their vacation. TUI and KLM will maintain their normal travel schedule for the time being. Bonaire residents currently residing in the Netherlands cannot return until further notice. A safety protocol is used for crew.

We recommend contacting your airline or your travel company for your return flight.

NB. If you have medical complaints, call the local number 777 2239. DO NOT go to the GP post or to the hospital.

For which countries does the flight ban apply?

The ban applies to all passenger flights from countries that pose a risk of the spread of the coronavirus:

  • The Netherlands and other countries of the European Union
  • The United Kingdom
  • Norway
  • Switzerland
  • Iceland
  • Liechtenstein
  • China
  • Iran
  • South Korea
  • USA
  • Canada
  • Dominican Republic
  • Colombia

Keep in mind that developments can happen quickly and additional travel restrictions (worldwide) may come into effect.

I am on holiday on Bonaire, do I have to cancel my holiday and can I still return to my country of origin?

Airspace is closed to inbound passenger flights from Europe, the US and other countries that are at risk of spreading the coronavirus. Vacations can continue at this time. KLM and TUI will maintain the normal schedule for return flights, for the time being, other airlines are still unknown.

Keep in touch with your airline and/or travel agency about this and also keep an eye on the local reports.

I am on vacation but want to return to the Netherlands as soon as possible, what should I do?

Please contact the airline. All passengers who want to travel from Bonaire to Europe can do this with regular flights. KLM and TUI will maintain the regular return flight schedule for the time being. Read current information about COVID-19 in the Netherlands here.

Can I still travel to the other islands and in the region?

Saba, Aruba, and Curaçao are closed to all passenger flights, Sint Eustatius, Sint Maarten still receive travelers from other islands. These travelers are screened and/or must ensure that they isolate themselves (in self-quarantine) for 14 days if they come from an island where the coronavirus is present.

Keep in mind that developments may happen quickly and additional travel restrictions (worldwide) may come into effect. Keep an eye on local news coverage and contact the airline.

I do an internship/work temporarily on the island, can I stay safe here?

Dutch people who stay here temporarily can stay on Bonaire. This is a personal consideration. Keep in mind that developments may happen quickly and additional travel restrictions (worldwide) may come into effect.

I am ill, what should I do?

DO NOT go to the doctor, but call 777 2239 and follow the instructions of the local GGD and authorities. You can also call a local general practitioner post.

I am supposed to arrive on Bonaire for vacation this weekend or next week, what can I do?

Flights from Europe and the US to Bonaire are currently not possible. Please contact the airline or your travel company.

Can I get back the extra costs for accommodation or tickets?

If the local authorities require you to remain in isolation or quarantine, follow the guidelines and orders. The costs for an extended stay will be borne by you or your travel insurance. Please contact your travel insurance and/or organization.

I can’t travel back but I don’t have the money to stay on Bonaire longer. What should I do?

Contact family or friends to request a loan or gift. Money can be transferred quickly via normal bank traffic.

Is it true that European Dutch will be evacuated with a military aircraft?

This is incorrect. Contact the regular airlines. Be alert to fake news.

I am from Bonaire but am staying in the Netherlands. How do I get back home?

Residents of Bonaire currently residing in the Netherlands cannot return until further notice.
