New Year’s Eve is the most popular period of the year. Our ancestors came together to share their memories with each other, but, before the visitors came, the necessary traditional preparations had to take place. The table was set with dishes and the house was cleaned with incense in anticipation of the new year. Nowadays, all these customs have become traditions and customs.
This Saturday, December 28, is the final edition of the cultural event Nos Zjilea for the year 2019 at the Mangazina di Rei Culture Park. This edition features the theme “Traditions of Old and New.” It is a habit to prepare different delicacies. Mr. Constantino “Tino” Thielman will give a demonstration on how to prepare a local traditional delicacy of fish while waiting for the new year.
At the end of every year is the tradition the “De Bari, ” a traditional instrument. Different songs are sung which are about exchanging personal feelings expressed in words. During Nos Zjilea, you may come and listen to the two well-known local singers of the Bari–Mr. Wesley “Wewe” St Jago and Mr. Rignald “Yonchi” Dortalina, who will challenge each other in the traditional way.
With the new year in sight, you need to make the necessary preparations to start off with a good foot. Another popular local tradition is the celebration of Maskarada, where the participants adopt different personalities with a mask on. Come and enjoy this celebration together with the group.
Cleaning the house is not only mopping and sweeping but also chasing away the evil spirits to welcome the New Year with all the good things it brings. Mrs. Leticia “Letty” Beaumont will tell us what you should all take into account when cleaning your house so that we can herald the new year properly.
A visit to the Nos Zjilea is, of course, not complete without a visit to our breathtaking exhibition about the culture and nature of the Rincon area, which is highly recommended.
