Diver’s Paradise, a new mystery novel that takes place on Bonaire.
When one is social distancing, and finding oneself with lots of downtime at home, what better way to vicariously travel to Bonaire than to read the brand new, just published, mystery novel set on Bonaire–Diver’s Paradise by Davin “Dave” Goodwin.
I was thrilled to receive and read an ARC–Advanced Reading Copy– of Diver’s Paradise. I immediately sat down the same evening and turned to page one. Wow! I was caught! As a lover of mysteries, especially “whodunits,” I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough. The book is fast-paced and brings one right to Bonaire’s shoreline. In fact, I thought I was on Bonaire, and then I realized I WAS on Bonaire!
Diver’s Paradise was written by Davin Goodwin, known to his friends as Dave, who has made 30 trips to Bonaire over the last 21 years. It’s the first of a series, so every Bonaire-lover will want to get up close and personal with Roscoe Conklin, the story’s protagonist, better known as simply “R.”
Get to know Roscoe Conklin, he will be back in the second book!
“R” is a retired police detective from Rockford, Illinois, who decides to give in to his dreams, and he finally relocates to Bonaire. On the island, he purchases and operates a small diving resort with the help of Erika (modeled on the real Erika at the prior Sand Dollar Dive & Photo). He learns the foibles of running a business on a small island, but he nevertheless immerses himself in the Bonaire lifestyle. His girlfriend, Arabella, is a member of the local police force, and the two of them, along with a few other characters, find themselves mired in a murder mystery that begins in Illinois and ends up on Bonaire.
It’s the next best thing to being on Bonaire.
Throughout the book, accurate and fun descriptions of locations on Bonaire, its people, and activities are well written and enjoyable. As a prior dive instructor, I smiled to myself as I read of the actions “R” must take when a new diver wants to scoot to the surface, having performed those same actions myself a few times!
As the dead bodies begin to pile up, “R” discovers that they all revolve around him! Although the local police really don’t want his help, he can’t resist–“R” jumps into his own investigation. What will “R” find? You’ll have to get a copy of Diver’s Paradise to find out.
Diver’s Paradise is available now.
Diver’s Paradise is available starting today and can be purchased either in hardcover ($26.95) or via e-book format ($10.49). Imagine how simple it is–just order it for your e-book, and you’ll be reading in no time!
