American Airlines to Fly Nonstop to Bonaire from Miami starting June, 2018

The Island of Bonaire signs contract with American Airlines to begin weekly service.

Today is a red-letter-day for Bonaire, and especially for its aviation history.  This morning, Bonaire’s Director of Tourism, Mr. Maurice Adrieans, along with island government officials, signed a new contract with American Airlines which will commence non-stop service from Miami to Bonaire in June 2018.

Using the same pen that was used years ago to sign the contract with American Eagle, which provided daily service for many years to Bonaire from San Juan, Puerto Rico, Mr. Adrieans officially executed the new agreement at a press conference and in the presence of many of Bonaire’s private sector companies, who worked diligently along with government and the tourism office to come to this momentous occasion.

Mr. Adriaens explained that it was sincerely hoped the new weekly service would be embraced by Bonaire’s visitors.  If the flights are successful, then a second weekly rotation could be added to the schedule, most likely mid-week on Wednesdays. The possibility exists for additional gateways in the future as well.

Flights from Miami to Bonaire commence in June 2018.

The flight service will begin on June 9, 2018, and American will utilize an Airbus A319 aircraft with 128 seats to operate the roundtrip service on Saturdays. The flights have been added to American’s reservation system, and are now available for booking.

This new weekly rotation from Miami will not only make it easier to get to Bonaire from North America but from Brazil as well. American Airlines will create special through-fares from gateways in Brazil, to facilitate Brazilian divers and leisure tourists in getting to Bonaire.

Do be aware that the flight service will be seasonal, and therefore, it can be adjusted as demand fluctuates.  Check with American Airlines to view availability.

Planned flight schedule.

The planned flight schedule for Saturdays is as follows:

  • The AA flight will depart Miami at 12:05 PM, arriving on Bonaire at 3:13 PM.
  • The return flight will depart Bonaire at 4:05 PM, arriving in Miami at 7:15 PM.

Five North American gateways offer non-stop flights to Bonaire.

With the new American Airlines service, non-stop flights from North America to Bonaire are now available via Houston, Newark, Atlanta, Miami, and Toronto.
