It’s Time for Bonaire’s Carnival (Karnaval) 2020!

by | Feb 7, 2020 | Music & Performances

It’s hard to believe, but it’s already time for Bonaire’s Carnival (Karnaval)!

Preparations have been made, and everyone on the island is ready for the Bonaire Carnival (Karnaval) 2020.  Final events begin this weekend, and will continue on through the rest of February!

Tumba Festivals for Adults and Youth

The Tumba Festivals will take place this weekend for both adults and youth.  Tumba is the special music just for Carnival (Karnaval), and each year an adult and a youth are chosen in special competitions as the Tumba musicians for Carnival (Karnaval).

Jump Ins

Jump Ins are spontaneous events with bands starting a parade of just about anyone and everyone who wishes to join.  Although you might encounter various smaller jump ins over the next weeks, next Thursday, there is a planned Krioyo Band Jump In, following the traditional Carnival (Karnaval) route.  Go ahead–Jump in!

Children’s Carnival (Karnaval)

February 15 and 16 brings the Children’s Carnival (Karnaval), with the parade on Saturday in Rincon and on Sunday in Kralendijk.  The kids are so cute, don’t miss it!

Five consecutive days of parades!

The elderly and teens will kick off five straight days of Carnival (Karnaval) Parades on Friday evening, February 21st, 2020.

Always a special highlight of Carnival (Karnaval), the adult Grand Parades will take place on Saturday and Sunday, February 22nd and 23rd, with Saturday taking place in Rincon and Sunday taking place in Kralendijk.

Remember, the Monday following is no longer a legal holiday on Bonaire, so don’t party too heartily!  You need to save some strength for the Youth Farewell Parade on Monday evening, and don’t forget the adults get the opportunity to say farewell as well on Tuesday evening, February 25th, 2020.  Remember, King Momo will be burned at midnight!
