The
name of the school, ‘’Watapana
School‘’ is named after the Bonairian
tree Watapana. The school is for special education
with a multi-age population for every classroom. Watapana
School is a public school for every religion. The
school is managed by the School Education and Cultural
Department of the Government. (S.E.K.).
Watapana
school is located at the northern part of the island
Bonaire, in the village of Rincon. This village is
the oldest village of Bonaire, with a rich historial
and cultural heritage inherent to this part of the
island.
There
is a bus connection to town every half hour. The population
of the school consists of 58 pupils, 7 teachers,1
class assistant, and workers
for administration, maintenance and gardening. We
also have a School Counselor and a social worker.
The
School's Vision:
The
most important development characteristics of our
pupils are that they have problems with learning,
which could have originated in intelligence, mental
illness, or home and social problems. Therefore, they
need special attention and special individual treatment.
For the future, we have planned important development
toward integration with the regular education system.
Our
vision at the Watapana school is that in the first
place we take care of the ‘’help needed’’
child in all aspects.
