FKPD
(Foundation for Care of Disabled Persons) offers
care to persons on Bonaire with mental handicaps.
Daily
care is available for those between the ages of
3 and 18, who receive intensive care and guidance
Monday through Friday in the Pasadia Cariño
Center for Children.
Some
adults in the program come to the Stanislaus center,
where they work in the kitchen, the card handicraft
department, candle factory, or greenhouse. Their
works can be seen and purchased at the center just
on the side of the Catholic Church.
Other
adults visit the DVO (Day Care Center for the Elderly).
These adults are not able to participate in the
labor process. Attention is provided to maintain
their skills and guide them through the process
of integration into the community.
The
program also allows for some adults to work a four-hour
day, several days each week, at various community
centers around Bonaire. These may include plant
nurseries, the animal shelter, a lawyer's office,
the youth complex, and a car rental agency.
The
FKPD team consists of a remedial educationalist,
speech therapist, physiotherapist, and a social
worker, who together with the foundations' management,
study and analyze the limitations of each individual
in order that a personal plan for their care can
be prepared.
We
invite you to stop by when you are in Rincon. You
will find the handicrafts and candles available
for purchase are made with great care and pride.
They make wonderful souvenirs and you will be doing
a good deed, too!
