Welcome to Rincon, Cradle of Bonairean Culture

The settlement of Rincon was established in the 16th century by the Spanish. They felt it was a protected area, safe from attack from the sea, and its inland location in a protected valley was reminiscent of home.

The Rincon of today is still a quiet, tranquil village where the history and culture of its people are reflected in their faces. Many of the traditions are alive and celebrated with great fanfare and festivities. Visitors to Bonaire are bound to be caught up in one of the many different holidays, be it the monthly market day or the smaller weekly version (marshe chikitu), Simadan (harvest) festival, Dia di San Juan or San Pedro, Dia di Rincon, or the Bari Festival.

View images from this year's Dia di Rincon, April 30th, 2006! Please be patient--the images will take a few moments to download.
