WHAT'S NEW IN BONAIRE
- Island News and Hotel Happenings -

Kralendijk, Bonaire - (August 14, 2001) - With so much to do in Bonaire from world class diving and snorkeling, and hiking to sunbathing, shopping, mountain biking and kayaking, deciding how to spend your vacation is sure to be one of the most challenging and exciting adventures while in Bonaire. No matter what visitors chose to do while in Bonaire, all are sure to enjoy the Island's year round sunshine, diversity of activities, friendly people and laid back, relaxing atmosphere. Here is some of the latest news from Bonaire.

All Around the Island
AMERICAN EAGLE - On September 7, 2001 American Eagle, the regional affiliate of American Airlines, will introduce a fourth nonstop flight from San Juan, Puerto Rico to Bonaire.  The flight will operate southbound to Bonaire on Friday night and northbound from Bonaire on Saturday morning, making 7-night packages with Friday and Saturday departures available.

BONAIRE ECO-SWIM - The Bonaire Hotel & Tourism Association (BONHATA) is pleased to announce that on November 30, 2001 Bonaire will host the First Annual Bonaire Eco Swim-Deep Blue Swim and Ocean Festival.  The event will feature three swim courses, the 5K Swim, Metric Mile and Kids Fun Swim.  There is a $65 per swimmer entry fee, which includes swim entry, welcome dinner, t-shirt and swim cap.  For Bonaireans looking to participate there is a special entry rate of $35.  For more information visit www.randynutt.com.

BONAIRE MARINE PARK - The United Nations Department of Social and Economic Affairs, Division for Sustainable Development, Small Island Developing States Unit (SIDS) recently announced that the Bonaire Marine Park (BMP) was chosen as an "Ecotourism Success Story."  Selected in preparation for 2002, the International Year of Ecotourism, which was declared by the United Nations to promote sustainable practices in tourism, the BMP was recognized for its successful ecotourism efforts and as a model for other organization.  For more information visit the SIDS website at www.sidsnet.org.

BONAIRE NAUTICO MARINA - The Bonaire Nautico Marina, located in Kralendijk announces the arrival of "Kantika di Amor" (Love Song).  Built entirely on Bonaire, the boat will serve as a water taxi and party boat, and is the first handicapped-accessible water taxi on Bonaire.  Offering comfortable seating for at least 25 people, regular service to Klein Bonaire's No Name Beach and daily sunset cruises with drinks, snacks and dancing, the boat is ideal for weddings, office parties, family reunions and picnic/BBQ parties at Klein Bonaire. BONAIRE TOURS & VACATIONS - Bonaire Tours & Vacations announces their new wedding program. GETTING MARRIED IN BONAIRE - The Bonairean government recently changed laws for getting married in Bonaire and now allows weddings outside of Passangrahan (the civil house) to take place. Paperwork still must be submitted and at least one of the people getting married must be in Bonaire for seven days prior to the wedding date and the location of the ceremony must have advanced government approval.

JONG BONAIRE'S VISITING TEEN PROGRAM - Jong Bonaire, Bonaire's non-profit youth center, has introduced the world's first Internet Banquet & Scuba Dive.  This fundraising event will raise money for the center, while giving visitors from around the world a virtual trip to Bonaire and the chance to win one of forty-five travel-related prizes including airline tickets, hotel stays, sports packages and dinners in Bonaire. NEW HOTEL BROCHURE - BONHATA, the Bonaire Hotel & Tourism Association, is in the final stages of printing its first ever brochure. The 40-page, full-color brochure titled Premier Resorts of Bonaire will include both large hotels (more than 20 rooms) and small hotels (less than 20 rooms) and will feature a pullout center spread with a road map.  Information on diving, eco-adventure, Bonaire's parks and culture will also be included. 

On the Restaurant Scene
The Bonaire Restaurant Association has announced that the new Bonaire Dining Guide and Recipe booklet is now available online.  The Guide can be found at www.bonairenet.com/diningguide.

On the Hotel Scene
AQUA VIVA APARTMENTS - Aqua Viva Apartments has introduced the Super Aqua Viva Special - Pay 5, Dive 6, Stay 7. The casino is being expanded and will feature an updated interior with new carpeting, wall finishing, ceiling and lighting, additional Slot Machines, a covered outside bar and seating area and additional landscaping.
