Kiteboarding on Bonaire: World Class in Paradise

Bonaire’s year round steady trade winds, clear warm water, and easy shore access make Bonaire the ideal destination for kiteboarders of all levels.  Bonaire's excellent conditions make kiteboarding possible almost every day of the year.

Kiteboarding is done in various areas around Bonaire and Klein Bonaire.  However, the primary spot where most people congregate is on the southwest side of the island at the site called Atlantis.  At Atlantis, there is plenty of room to jump, fly, and cut through the water.  Look for the colorful kites flying through the air. Atlantis, and all the waters around Bonaire, are protected by the Bonaire Marine National Park rules and regulations. Locate Atlantis on Bonaire's leeward coast by clicking here (site #57).

Bonaire's kiteboarding companies provides lessons and equipment rental.  They are committed to providing top quality, safe, personalized kiteboarding instruction and equipment for all levels, with specially designed kites and boards for fast learning.

When students are in the water, they are always accompanied by their instructor in a boat.  This allows the instructor to stay close for safety, observation, and training purposes, and allows the student to focus on kiteboarding.   Shore access is easy, and as sailors advance, they can move out further into the deeper water and bigger waves for more challenges.

Lessons are available from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. or from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m.  With Bonaire’s steady trade winds, lessons can be given almost every day of the year.  Times can be adjusted to fit your schedule.  Food and beverages are also available.  Bring plenty of sunscreen and your rashguard, as there isn’t much shade.

Kiteboarding can be taught to anyone who can swim and is at least ten years old.   Warm water, steady winds, and excellent instructors mean kiteboarding has never been easier or more accessible.

InfoBonaire also offers a page providing tips on how to choose just the right beach-and surf-wear, as well as a listing of island sources for great, comfortable clothing, or an online source for those who prefer to purchase their surf-wear prior to arrival on Bonaire.

Bonaire National Marine Park User Fee For Kiteboarders

It is necessary for all who use the waters of the Bonaire National Marine Park to pay a Nature Fee of $10 per year ($25.00 for scuba divers).  At the time of payment, you will receive a specially designed tag indicating your support for nature preservation and a receipt.  If purchasing the $25.00 dive tag, keep both the tag and receipt, as they will also provide you with complimentary admission to Washington-Slagbaai National Park for the year when your tag is valid.  Tags are available at all dive operations, hotels, resorts, Kiteboarding Bonaire, windsurfing operations, sport fishing charter boats, sail/snorkel/water taxi operations, marinas, and other water sports operations on Bonaire. Your Bonaire National Marine Park tag also should be kept with y ou when kiteboarding, in case the marine park rangers ask for proof that you have one.
