Dive Festival 2002
Celebrating 6 years of Marine protection and conservation
With last years 'Promé Lustro' (5 year celebration), the Bonaire Dive Festival has reached a milestone and become the island's most important conservation and dive event. This week long event focuses on the protection of the world's coral reefs and marine ecosystems and educates divers and snorkelers about what role they can play in conservation efforts. Together with its co-sponsors CORAL and Rodale's Scuba Diving, Bonaire is hosting a week full of informative seminars, underwater photography, important environmental awareness projects, nightly cocktail parties, and last but certainly not least diving that will take you to a complete new level! You can rub elbows with some of the dive industry's environmental and photography greats and become part of the Dive Festival family sharing experiences with our friends who have been visiting us for years. The Dive Festival is also made possible thanks to a number of other sponsors. These include Air Jamaica, the Official Airline of the Bonaire Dive Festival, Scubapro, Sea & Sea and Kodak. Who are our guests of honor this year? Want to rub shoulders with Dr. Carl Safina from the National Audubon Society's Living Oceans Program and author of "Song for the Blue Ocean," or learn some photography skills from underwater photographers Bob Talbot and Jack and Sue Drafahl. Or how about a dive with Ned DeLoach from Reef Environmental Education Foundation (REEF) or a chat with Dr. Rod Fujita from Environmental Defense. Even better, go see Kalli De Meyer from CORAL who can tell you all about Bonaire's success in Marine Conservation. For years now people like these and many others who have become part of the Dive Festival family have been contributing to this exciting, fun and educational week. Here are highlights of what you can expect throughout the week:
